- Mono audio is sound coming in one direction. Most smartphones have mono audio. The speakers built into most cheap televisions are mono audio.
- Stereo audio comes in two directions—left and right. Most headphones and speakers today are stereo.
- Surround sound audio comes in four directions—left, right, front, and back.
Dolby atmos is the name given to the proprietary surround sound technology by Dolby labs introduced in 2012.
Dolby atmos takes the user into a three-dimensional sound space by individually addressing up to 64 unique speaker tracks. Dolby accomplished this by adding height speakers and ceiling speakers by placing the user in the center of all three axes. Dolby Atmos technology enables up to 128 audio tracks plus panoramic metadata associated with cinemas to be distributed for optimal and dynamic representation to speakers based on theater capabilities.
Sounds that don't move dynamically, such as surround sounds and center dialogs, are still pre-mixed separately in a traditional multi-channel format. During playback, the Dolby Atmos system in each room represents all dynamic sounds, from panoramic metadata, in real time to make it appear that each sound is coming from its designated location, relative to the speakers in the destination room. In contrast, traditional multi-channel technology essentially records audio tracks on a fixed number of channels during post-production. Traditionally, this has forced the re-recording mixer to make initial assumptions about the playback environment that may not apply very well to a particular theater (to the extent that its capabilities differ from the mixing stage where the mixer was working).
Dolby atmos for commercial cinema -
First-generation cinema hardware, the "Dolby Atmos cinema processor," supports up to 128 discrete audio tracks and up to 64 single speaker feeds.
The grey speakers give the existing surround speakers and the coloured speakers represent the additional Dolby atmos speakers.
Dolby atmos for home -
In addition to reproducing a standard 5.1 or 7.1 mix using arrayed speakers, the Dolby Atmos system can also provide each speaker with its own unique power based on its exact location, thus allowing many new front, surround and even ceiling-mounted channel heights. for precise panning of selected sounds, such as a helicopter or rain.
Dolby Atmos on my mobile -
When Dolby Atmos launched, there were many companies that wanted to incorporate this system into their mobile devices. Now, you can find this system on almost all new mobile devices.
Except for these Android devices, you may need a good earphone to immerse yourself in the world of magic and sounds in style. I would personally recommend if you are looking to increase your experience in the gaming world (eg Overwatch supports Dolby Atmos), or some casual and stylish wooden earphones like.
Dolby Atmos does NOT work with:
- Google Chrome.
- Mozilla Firefox.
- YouTube.
- Most anime sites, including Crunchyroll.
- Most anime.
- Most videos, except for movies.
- Most music.
If you turned on Dolby Atmos for headphones while listening to any of the above, all you'll hear is typical stereo sound. Even on YouTube videos with binaural recording, you won't hear any difference than listening with Dolby Atmos for headphones turned off, because YouTube doesn't support Dolby Atmos rendered audio.
