A study in the US that included about 70,000 high school students found that approximately 95% of students cheated in some way. And such studies prompted officials and educators to come up with plans that could reduce or even eradicate cheating on exams.
The AI program.
Now when we say the word cheat, it not only includes cheating on exams, but also cheating on assignments, articles, and the like, which includes using someone or paying someone to write something for you. To address these problems, researchers at the University of Copenhagen, combining big data with artificial intelligence, have created a device that determines whether you wrote your assignment or a ghostwriter wrote it for you, with nearly 90 percent accuracy.
According to several different studies, the tendency to cheat on an assignment has been increasing among high school students. Which results in serious problems. At the University of Copenhagen, through a thorough analysis with the help of artificial intelligence, they determine whether a copy is misled or not. This technology-based verification is the result of the hard work of various scientists.
The program, called "Ghostwriter" is based on an analysis of 130,000 assignments written in Danish. And with the help of this, scientists can detect whether a student has written an assignment on their own or a ghostwriter composed it. It is almost 90 percent accurate.
To determine the authenticity of the task, the program identifies discrepancies in writing styles. The program compares recently submitted writing with previously submitted work by a student. They also check other variables to be precise.
Among other variables, the program analyzes the length of the words, the structure of the sentences and how the words are used. For example, if "for example" is written as "ex". or "for example,".
Apart from using the ghostwriter to determine if someone has cheated on assignments. It could also apply in other parts of society. For example, the program could be used in police work to supplement the analysis of falsified documents. It is a task performed by forensic document examiners and others.
As Stephan Lorenzen put it, “It would be fun to collaborate with the police, who are currently deploying forensic document examiners to look for qualitative similarities and differences between the texts they are comparing. We can look at large amounts of data and find patterns. I imagine that this combination would benefit police work ”.
Conclusion:
The use of artificial intelligence to verify the authenticity of any document or assignment would reduce the scams committed. Also, it will be useful for long term students. The application of Ghostwriter in other fields of society would be really very useful. It has already been used to analyze Twitter tweets to determine if they were composed by real users or written by imposters or paid robots.
