With the great controversy over the security of user data on Google, the company has been trying to make some efforts to make the platform trustworthy for users. In such effort, it has recently introduced a key control that allows users to change Google-related settings while preserving user data. The changed settings will now allow users to automatically delete location and web history from users' Google account. New Google accounts come with these default settings, but for old Google users, you need a little configuration

Steps to auto-delete web and location history

  • As a first step, you should navigate to Google’s Activity Controls If you are not signed in then log in to your Google account
  • Now turn the toggle key to off the option “Auto-delete”
  • Then, you will find the option and choose to auto-delete your Google activity after 3 or 18 months. Then click on “Next”
  • Here, click “Confirm” to make the change permanent
  • If you also don’t want to keep a track of your web activity, then you can turn off disable that by toggling off the option “Web and App Activity”
  • In the same way, scroll down and turn off the toggle for “Location History” and “YouTube History”. Doing this, you will permanently stop Google from retaining your location history, YouTube, and web activity. Remember, this also means that your Google experience will not be as personalized as it used to be earlier.

Follow these steps and retain your data from Google. If you feel concerned about your data, and if you prioritize your privacy, then this is a must for you.
